I’m trying to get myself into a proper post-run routine. I’ve never been one for protein shakes and supplements, but I’ve decided to keep a bit of an open mind, even if it’s just to reap the benefits of the placebo effect.
Being a newbie to this whole carb-loading, protein shaking malarkey, I looked online for a sexy looking protein shaker (why can’t protein shakers be pretty too, eh?) that wasn’t in lurid pink. I found this absolute beauty from SmartShake.co.uk. It’s got 3 nifty compartments – 1 to store the protein powder for when you are on the go, and another to store vitamins and supplements.
What do you think? Are you into protein shakes/bars or do you think it’s all waffle?
This week I am starting PT Mollie’s virtual training group (VTG). I found out about this over on Dash‘s blog.
The idea of the programme is to help individuals to achieve their goals through helpful articles, tips and a report which is sent out on a weekly basis. The goals the members set have to SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound).
The VTG runs over 8 weeks and during that time the group will share their progress, such as how many goals were achieved and if there is anything a member needs help with, etc.
So here are my goals for over the next 8 weeks:
- Drink at least 2 glasses of water a day
- Run 3 times a week
- Eat a protein bar after exercising
- Take daily chondroitin sulphate, glucosamine supplements and cod liver oil supplements
- Work on my core at least 3 times a week
- Do more than 20 full press ups
- Do at least one chin up
- Run half marathon distance again (my running legs are a bit rusty)
What are your goals for the next couple of months?
I used to always shop in Sainsbury’s but I’ve recently moved to Oxfordshire and unfortunately in the part I have moved to, Tesco seems to have a monopoly. I literally can’t go into that shop without having a nervous breakdown because they don’t have something I need/want.
We have an ALDI just down the road from us and I’d heard before that it’s a great little supermarket, but I’d never ventured into one (mainly as I felt my street cred would plummet). Over the Christmas break though I thought ‘What the hell, I’ll just pop in a see what it’s like’.
I don’t really buy ready made food (partly because I’m a bit of a control freak and like to know what’s in the food I’m eating), but I do buy healthy snacks to get me through the day, and here are some of my favourites that ALDI have to offer:
– Fruit slices: ALDI’s take on Go ahead slices, but a fraction of the price and also I think they taste nicer and are lower calorie.
– Golden bakes: Again, these are similar to Go Ahead bars, but I prefer the flavours (blueberry in particular)
– Rice cakes
– Crisp breads
They also do a great range of face creams and some basic makeup (such as concealer similar to touché éclat), including this lovely Shimmering face cream, which smells of apricots and at £1.99 is an absolute bargain.
I used to spend at least £120/week on a small trolley of food in the larger supermarkets, but now I rarely spend over £60. With the money I save I could squeeze in another trip or perhaps treat myself to a nice bag. 🙂
My own exercise journey has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done and that’s why the Divas and I love sharing with you our stories to help inspire you to also achieve your goals. I for one feel more confident, less stressed and also less tired from exercise.
The lovely people at Moneysupermarket.com would like to reward one of you lucky bloggers the chance to share your story of how exercise makes you feel, and one lucky blogger with the most inspirational story (as judged by the Divas and final decision from MoneySupermarket) will win one of these fabulous FitBit activity trackers and a set of smart scales. I have previously blogged about my own FitBit device here and how great I think it is.
